Charcoal portrait study

I recently bought my first compressed charcoal sticks. I wanted to try how they compare to vine charcoal. Not bad at all in my opinion, they are very nice to work with.

Compressed charcoal on paper, 30x45cm

I got to take a brief look at Henry Yan's figure drawing book at last weekend's figure drawing session. Man, can he draw or what! I just had to order a copy for myself. Can't wait to get it!

omg this is beautiful. I bought Henry Yan's book awhile back - it's awesome. I love how he talks about different 'tactics' while drawing under certain time limits. I just wish he'd release a video or something so I can see his technique!
