Oil on canvas board, 10x15 cm

For those interested, here's how I painted this:

1. First I toned the canvas with a mix of transparent oxide brown and viridian, thinned with odorless mineral spirit.
2. Then I blocked in the darks,
3. ... and the lights
4. The middle values.
5. After the face and background was ready, I indicated the shirt and that's it!

This is stunning, Arto. Beautifully soft, tender and intimate. I love the portrait works on your blog as well, and the studies of Aphrodite. Thanks for sharing you processes too!

Indeed, thanks for showing the process, I always find that interesting (now I think of it I should so that more :) )
Beautiful portrait on such a small surface.

Thank you Caroline and Erik! My process varies a bit from painting to painting, but this one had so simple light and dark shapes it was easy to break down into steps.

I have taken WIP pics of Iris also. If you're interested, I can post the process here.
