Charcoal portraits

Charcoal on paper, 28x35 cm

Charcoal on paper, 28x35 cm

I received Dan Gerhartz's new book "Not Far From Home" a week and a half ago as a birthday gift. The paintings are beautiful and the print quality is high. The images are sharp and colors look really good. I enjoy it very much! For a more thorough review of the book, visit Ryan Mellody's blog.

I have not seen anyone still doing charcoal art in a long long long time.

Happy New Years Arto! (And Happy Birthday too!)
One of the similarites I've noticed
is the love of your subject.
I think you have a sincerity to your art. People want the truth, and your artwork is that.

Beautiful drawings Arto, very expressive. What paper do you use to draw on?
That's a nice book by Dan Gerhartz, it's on my wishlist too but still 9 months until my birthday so I might have to buy it myself :)

Thank you, Erik! I drew these on Daler Rowney's Simply Sketchbook 27.9cm x 35.6cm. It's got a nice tooth for charcoal.
